Please join us at the Intercontinental Hotel in Saint Paul on March 25th as we hear from Carol J Nelson about the Rotary Fights Malaria initiative.
In this presentation, you will learn about the huge global impact of Malaria and about the disease itself, how it is spread, prevented and treated. You will discover what Rotary is doing to fight malaria through two Rotary organizations. Data will be shared about two small Rotary Malaria grants that Carol is involved in through Bo Rotary Club in Sierra Leone and Rural Health Care Initiative. Plans for a Global Grant proposal on Malaria will be reviewed with an opportunity for your club to participate.
Carol grew up on a small farm in northwestern North Dakota. She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 1978, followed by Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residencies and completed her Masters of Public Health at the U of MN in 2018. Now retired, Carol worked as a primary care physician at Health Partners, Boynton Health at the U of MN and at the Hennepin County Medical Center International Travel Clinic. Her passion for global health started in 2012 when she became active with Rural Health Care Initiative and its work on Maternal and Child health in Sierra Leone. She has made 9 trips to Sierra Leone. Carol joined Rotary Club of White Bear Lake in 2020 and serves on the International Committee and is chair of the Community Services Team. Carol's spouse Keith Henry is an HIV specialist. Three sons and five grandchildren keep her busy!
