Please join us on July 30th at the InterContinental Hotel in Saint Paul as we hear from Tim and Jake Spitzack of the St. Paul Voice. They will provide a brief history of the newspaper industry and discuss how community newspapers continue to thrive.
Tim Spitzack has a B.S. in Journalism and Sociology from the University of WI River Falls and over 36 years of writing, editing, and newspaper management experience. He is the editor and publisher of four community newspapers (St. Paul Voice, Downtown St. Paul Voice, La Voz Latina, South St. Paul Voice) and an author (Reflections from the Riverfront: Essays on Life in the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, and The Messenger). Tim is involved with Hope Lutheran Church and the West St. Paul/Mendota Heights Rotary Club. He enjoys spending time with his family, kayaking, hiking, skiing, playing guitar, and reading.
Jake Spitzack has a General Studies degree from North Dakota State University and trained in journalism through the Poynter Institute and completed a 3-year newspaper management apprenticeship at St. Paul Publishing Co. He is a staff writer and media and marketing manager at four community newspapers (St. Paul Voice, Downtown St. Paul Voice, La Voz Latina, South St. Paul Voice) and an author (The Rites of Passage). He enjoys camping, disc golf, and playing guitar.
