Ann Nyakundi serves as Chief Executive Officer of United Family Medicine, an urban federally qualified community health center. With more than 20 years of experience in public health and health care administration, Ms. Nyakundi has demonstrated strengths in community outreach, nonprofit management, strategic planning and health policy. Throughout her career, Nyakundi served on various national advisory committees including Medtronic Philanthropy’s HealthRise US Program and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’ New Models of Primary Care Workforce and Financing where she represented community health workers having helped initially design the use of this group at Hennepin Healthcare, the largest safety net health system in Minnesota. Beyond advisory roles, Ms. Nyakundi has a background in quality improvement, health care administration, community health, health policy and philanthropy. Prior to her leadership at United Family Medicine, she provided strategic support to the National Marrow Donor Program managing payer relationships with the largest national payers in the country. She also helped spread Practice Facilitation nationally within the Primary Care Services Division of the American Cancer Society where she served as Health Systems Manager for the Midwest Division. As an undergraduate student, Nyakundi secured an international fellowship with the National Institutes of Health in China and conducted medical anthropology research in the Dominican Republic studying traditional health systems. Educated in executive health care administration at the University of Minnesota and medical anthropology from the University of Michigan, Ms. Nyakundi is a sought after speaker for providing innovative new ways to reduce health disparities. She lives in Minnesota and is married with two children and three furry companions named Napoleon, Sephina, and Oso.
